Update on Tollway South End Renovation Efforts

There’s still a lot happening at the south end of the Dallas North Tollway and nearby Oak Lawn Avenue as NTTA crews continue work on a major capital improvement effort.

Started in May 2006, the $50 million project includes:
  • The demolition of the original main lane toll plaza at Wycliff Avenue,
  • Reconstruction of the pavement from Lemmon Avenue south to IH 35E,
  • Replacement of the Oak Lawn bridge and the widening of Oak Lawn Avenue as it approaches the Tollway from the east and west,
  • Construction of new ramp access to Oak Lawn Avenue,
  • Adds a sound wall along the northwest quadrant of the Tollway/Oak Lawn intersection.
  • Replacement of the Cedars Springs Road Bridge.
The following projects are scheduled for completion in March:
  • The Cedars Springs Road Bridge completely open to traffic with 2-lanes in each direction,
  • The intersection of Prescott Avenue and Cedars Springs Road re-opened to traffic,
  • Widening work on Maple Avenue bridge decks completed, and
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on Oak Lawn Avenue were moved onto different lanes with new concrete paving west of the Tollway to IH 35E.
In April, the last remnants of the tollbooths at the Wycliff toll gantry, those in the southbound lanes, will be removed. Also, southbound traffic from Lemmon Avenue to Wycliff Avenue will be shifted into different lanes to open up areas for the new construction..

As always, weather plays an important part in how construction projects proceed. Safety is a top priority at the NTTA. When inclement weather moves in, our crews need to postpone their efforts.
