NTTA and TxDOT reach agreement on future toll roads

This month the NTTA Board of Directors convened a Special Called Meeting to vote on an agreement between the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) aimed at establishing a process for building future toll roads in the region. The Board approved the TxDOT/NTTA Regional Protocol unanimously. The Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) will vote on the agreement at its next regular meeting on Thursday, August 24th.

The NTTA and TxDOT have been working together on this agreement over the last several weeks. Under the new agreement, the NTTA will operate all toll road projects in North Texas for at least the first five years, regardless of who builds the road, while agreeing not to pursue SH 121 in Collin and Denton Counties, and SH 161 in Dallas County as NTTA projects.

Resurfacing is underway on Tollway and Turnpike

In coming weeks, the North Texas Tollway Authority will apply new surfaces to parts of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) and the Dallas North Tollway (DNT).  Work will require lane closures, but all procedures will be done between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. to ensure that the impact on traffic is minimal. Both projects will be completed by mid-October.

New State Highway 121 now open in Denton County

The first segments of the new State Highway (SH) 121 toll road in Denton County opened July 6, and tolling begins September 1. With no toll booths or coin baskets, stopping or slowing down to pay tolls is not required. When tolling begins in September, there will be two ways to pay: with an electronic toll tag or license plate recognition billed by mail.
