Command Center Tells: Tips for Wet Weather Driving • DO NOT TAILGATE – Remember that roads are slippery when wet, so make sure to leave plenty of space between yourself and other vehicles.
• DON’T DRIVE INTO WATER ON THE ROAD IF YOU CAN’T TELL HOW DEEP IT IS – It only takes two feet of water to float a large vehicle or bus off the road.
• TURN HEADLIGHTS ON – If your windshield wipers are on, it is a good idea to turn your headlights on as well this will help you see and be seen.
• TRAVEL IN THE MIDDLE LANE – Water drains to either side
• HAVE YOUR TIRES AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS CHECKED – You should also make sure that your headlights and brake lights work as well.
There is no way to prevent all accidents, but by following these tips you can greatly reduce your chance of having an accident on the roadway.
