Discussions on Southwest Parkway Continue The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is leading the design and construction of the Southwest Parkway in Tarrant County. The 8.4-mile, limited-access tollroad will run south from Interstate Highway (IH) 30 at the Fort Worth central business district to Altamesa Boulevard in southwest Fort Worth.
Project partners (NTTA, Texas Department of Transportation, Tarrant County, and City of Fort Worth) continue to work toward resolving issues related to utility relocations, right-of -way acquisition, funding and finalization of design and landscape details.
With design well under way for the five roadway sections, and completed plans under review for the Trinity River crossings, project partners continue to work on a final funding agreement and construction schedule.
In addition, coordination continues with the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) for the Davidson Yard crossing, with meetings between UPRR and project partners ongoing. Discussions at each meeting have focused on the details of proposed improvements, coexistence between the rail and roadway corridors, and the terms of an agreement. The UPRR is continuing discussions and the project partners are seeking solutions to concerns being raised by the UPRR, such as engineering, operations and the ability for Southwest Parkway to coexist with the Davidson during construction and when complete. All parties involved are working efficiently and as cost-effectively as possible to reach a consensus on the steps necessary to move forward without undue delay in construction.
If all issues are resolved and agreements signed, it is anticipated that construction could begin in early 2009. The parkway is expected to open to traffic in 2011.
