All-ETC Conversion of Bush Turnpike Complete On July 1, 2009, the NTTA converted the President George Bush Turnpike to an all-electronic toll collection facility. Overnight crews changed signage and closed toll booths along the entire corridor. Months of planning and advance communication with the public through meetings, radio advertisements, news releases and signage aided in the success of the conversion. On the morning of July 1, new signage was presented instructing drivers to “Keep Moving,” and notifying drivers without TollTags – or ZipCash customers – that they will receive bills in the mail. Changes to the NTTA Web site provided quick and easy links to information to help answer questions about electronic toll collection and ZipCash.
Since the conversion, many customers have contacted the NTTA to ask various billing questions, such as how to make payments when using a rental car or payment options for out-of-state visitors. Answers to these and many other questions specific to this new process can be found at www.ntta.org.
Crews will continue to work in the closed lanes to place more permanent barricades. The work is expected to be complete by October 2009 and have a minimal effect on the traveling public. Any necessary lane closures will occur during off-peak hours. All drivers on the Bush Turnpike are asked to drive carefully and heed all warning signs.
One easy way to navigate your way around all-electronic toll collection is by getting a TollTag.
- TollTags save you money; ZipCash customers pay 50% more.
- TollTags are hassle free. You don’t have to mail in payments for invoices. A TollTag automatically recharges the credit/debit card to keep money on your account.
- Get up to three TollTags per account at no additional charge.
- A credit/debit card-backed TollTag allows you to park and pass-through at D/FW International and Dallas Love Field airports.
- A TollTag allows you to travel any toll road in Texas.
