Speed Limits Increase on Three NTTA Roads

Drivers now can get there even more quickly by traveling several NTTA facilities where speed limits are set to increase.

The NTTA Board of Directors in June approved a 5 mph increase to speed limits on Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel and Mountain Creek Lake Bridge. Results from an engineering and traffic analysis, commonly known as a speed study, determined the changes.

“Our speed studies show the ability of the two bridges and tunnel to safely accommodate this increase,” said NTTA Director of Maintenance J.C. Wood. “As always, drivers should use caution whenever they get behind the wheel.”

Factors considered in a speed study include the prevailing traffic speed, roadway geometry and conditions, accident history, and roadside developments. The studies followed the NTTA’s conversion to all-electronic toll collection and the establishment of traffic patterns on the Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge.

Speed Limit Changes:
  • Addison Airport Toll Tunnel increases from 35 mph to 40 mph
  • Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge increases from 45 mph to 50 mph
  • Mountain Creek Lake Bridge increases from 45 mph to 50 mph
