Bush Turnpike Western Extension: Full Steam Ahead

Construction activity is accelerating in all areas of Phase 4 of the President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension as crews move full steam ahead on bridge work and excavation.

On the north end of the project area, bridge columns continue to be placed along Interstate 30, which will serve the direct connector ramp joining southbound PGBT Western Extension to eastbound I-30. In addition, bridge deck panels placed at Dickey Road will be part of the future PGBT Western Extension main lanes.

The Tarrant Road cross-street bridge under construction since May opened to traffic in November, concluding the associated closure at Tarrant Road and State Highway 161.

Near downtown Grand Prairie, Dalworth Street remains closed to cross traffic, and Jefferson Street has been reduced to two lanes as crews perform preparatory work for the construction of future bridges at both locations. Northbound SH 161 also has been closed from Conover Drive to Jefferson Street. These closures will be in place until June 2012. When complete, both bridges will span the PGBT Western Extension main lanes.
