Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension Opens in Mid-December

The highly anticipated President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension is now on track to open the week of Dec. 18, weather permitting, giving motorists a smooth drive from northwest Garland to Interstate 30.

The 9.9-mile Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension is a portion of the outer loop around Dallas and its suburbs. The corridor will extend through Garland, Sachse and Rowlett. Initially planned in 1957, it is part of the Loop 9/State Highway 190 corridor. Construction on the $958 million dollar project began in August 2008, and the corridor will open on time.

Although the corridor will be open to traffic, motorists will continue to see minor construction activity through the first part of 2012 as final touches are made to the corridor’s infrastructure.
