Construction to Begin on New Sam Rayburn/Dallas North Tollway Interchange The NTTA expects to begin construction in February 2010 on the new Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT)/Dallas North Tollway (DNT) interchange in the cities of Frisco and Plano.
During its regularly scheduled meeting in December 2009, the NTTA Board of Directors awarded the construction contract on the new $79.4 million interchange. The contractor, Williams Brothers Construction Company Inc. of Houston, is readying the necessary documentation in order to receive an official notice to proceed with construction from the NTTA.
The construction will add a fourth and fifth level to the existing three-level interchange through the construction of eight direct-connect bridges between the SRT and the DNT. In addition, new ramp access will be added to the Legacy Business Park area and local access improvements will be made near the new SRT/DNT interchange.
North Texas motorists will enjoy the new, fully directional interchange because it will allow traffic to flow continuously through the busy area, further improving regional mobility. When the new interchange opens, drivers will no longer have to exit the DNT and then take the service road to access the SRT main lanes, as they currently do.
The NTTA has an aggressive delivery schedule for the project, known as Segment 5. The interchange is expected to open to traffic in January 2012.
