Regional Safety Summit Kicks Off

The North Texas Tollway Authority, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving launched a Regional Safety Summit kick-off meeting on Jan. 14 at the NTTA headquarters.

“The NTTA recognizes that safety challenges are not just limited to tollways,” said NTTA Executive Director Allen Clemson. “Dangers posed by things like unsafe motorcyclists, wrong-way drivers and drunk drivers impact every North Texas community.”

The NTTA, the Texas Department of Public Safety and MADD invited public safety officials, community groups and concerned citizens from around the region to work together in a series of meetings as part of a comprehensive safety summit to identify safety issues and develop strategies to improve roadway safety.

The series began with the kick-off meeting Jan. 14 for organizers to discuss the timeline and opportunities for involvement. Town hall meetings for the public and workshops for public safety officials will be scheduled later throughout 2011, and results and initiatives developed from the summit are expected in the fourth quarter of 2011. Dates for the first two public town halls have already been set.
