SH 161 Moves Closer to Completion

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have reached an agreement on the terms and conditions and cost assumptions to build State Highway 161 as a toll road, meeting the deadline set by Texas Transportation Commission Chairman Ric Williamson last month.After weeks of negotiations, NTTA and TxDOT came to agreement for the purposes of the market valuation for SH 161 on financial aspects including operations and maintenance costs, toll escalation rates, terms and payments and traffic and revenue figures.

Toy Drive
NTTA employees conducted a “Give from the Heart” toy and food drive for one week in December. The donations were delivered to the North Texas Food Bank and WFAA-TV’s “Santa’s Helpers”. This photo shows how the staff at one of the NTTA’s Main Lane Plazas made the collection box the focal point of their holiday decorations. Hundreds of new toys and several hundred pounds of non-perishable items were donated.

NTTA Closed for Holidays
The NTTA Customer Service Center, TollTag and Administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 and Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 in observance of New Year’s and Martin Luther King, Jr days respectively.
All NTTA toll roads, main lane and ramp plazas will be open during the holiday.

Motorists traveling through cash lanes at toll and ramp plazas should be advised that coin baskets only accept change (that jingles). ‘Coins only’ signs have been placed at plazas to notify drivers that the lanes are change only prior to the plaza, giving drivers the opportunity to move to a lane with a toll attendant to accept their paper currency. Some lanes have dollar bill changers, and in those instances, drivers can get change from the machines,

It may be winter, but work continues on renovations on the 40-year old south end area of the Dallas North Tollway. In December, work on the Cedar Springs Road Bridge was completed. The bridge now has two lanes in each direction, which has significantly improved the flow of traffic.

Holiday Rush . . . NTTA Promoted TollTags to Shoppers
North Texas Tollway Authority representative discusses the benefits of a TollTag to a customer at the leased kiosk located at Stonebriar mall. The kiosk was used throughout the holiday season to provide holiday shoppers a convenient location to sign up for a TollTag during the holidays. In addition to sign-ups, the kiosk was used to educate customers on NTTA initiatives, projects and news. To find more sign-up locations visit www.ntta.org. |
