DNT South End Construction Almost Finished As 2008 comes to an end, so do the renovations to the southern section of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT).
The $50 million project, which began in May 2006, upgraded and added capacity to the 40-year-old southernmost section of the DNT.
The improvements feature innovative technological advancements in toll collection and ensure the highest safety and maintenance standards for area drivers. In fewer than three years, the NTTA was able to replace the original main lane toll plaza at Wycliff Avenue with a new all-electronic toll collection (ETC) gantry, replace the Cedar Springs Road Bridge and the center median barrier, widen Oak Lawn Avenue, repave much of the main lanes and add a new entrance and exit ramp at Oak Lawn – improving access from the DNT to IH 35E.
The success of all-electronic toll collection, which debuted at Wycliff Ave., allows traffic to flow freely through the main lanes without the need to stop and pay cash, and has inspired a system wide-change that will continue through 2010.
The much anticipated new ramps at Oak Lawn Avenue are already increasing mobility in the downtown Dallas area and allowing for ease of access to and from the DNT.
