NTTA Earns Financial Transparency Award
The NTTA earned the state of Texas’ highest audit honor for its online public access to financial documents. The Texas Comptroller’s Leadership Circle program has awarded the NTTA a “Gold Circle Award.”
The Comptroller of Public Accounts launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program in December 2009 to recognize local entities across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online.
The award spotlights:
- Opening financial books to the public
- Providing clear, consistent pictures of spending
- Sharing information in a user-friendly format that allows toll payers easy access for more information.
The Texas Comptroller’s office awards its Leadership Circle designees with a certificate reflecting the gold, silver or bronze level. Under its guidelines, the comptroller awards the Gold Circle to “those entities that are setting the bar with their transparency efforts.”
“At the NTTA we strive for complete financial transparency with the public,” said NTTA Chief Financial Officer Janice Davis. “We will continue to reach for the highest level of transparency as we fulfill our mission to enhance mobility through innovative tolling solutions.”
The NTTA made additions to its website in 2011 that led to the award. An online check register that shows date, payee and amount paid for all Authority expenses can be found on the NTTA’s website. The NTTA also added a payroll summary to increase financial transparency. This is in addition to existing information on the website that includes the annual financial report, the past three years of annual budgets and investor service ratings, among other items.
