Water conservation measures on the President George Bush Turnpike

The NTTA in the design of its landscape projects has taken the summer climatic conditions into consideration during the landscape design process.

Indigenous or adapted plant varieties suited for our North Texas region have been incorporated. These varieties once established are drought tolerant and will require less water once established. In addition the vast majority of our irrigation is subsurface drip which utilizes less water than conventional spray irrigation systems. The irrigation system has only been installed in the various landscape beds. The vast majority of the PGBT roadside is unirrigated turf.

The NTTA is currently undertaking an erosion repair project to establish bermuda turf in those areas which have eroded or can potentially erode. This project is a safety measure to ensure traffic is not impeded by mud or mud slides entering the roadway. Consequently, there are water trucks applying irrigation throughout the PGBT in various areas in need of turf repair. Once the turf is established, watering will cease.

As an entity within the North Texas region, the NTTA has been in contact with and will comply with the water/drought restrictions of all our neighboring cities.
