“This is a great [newsletter]. Well written, concise, and very friendly. At first I was a bit skeptical, and even irritated a bit by the idea of another unsolicited email delivery. But as I began to read through them I realized the sole purpose was to be helpful to the toll tag customers and keep them informed about what was going on—this week and next year. So much thanks, for the time and effort it takes to put this together!!”
We also heard from a gentleman named Craig:
“I know several people who refuse to install toll tags because of their aesthetics. We already must have the State’s inspection and registration stickers blighting our windshields. The light colored tags stand out in a negative manner. Why not offer them in black as an alternative? I think you’d find significant more users.”
We sent him a note back with the following information and thought other customers might be interested in the response: The current version of our transponder (TollTag) is only offered in one color by our manufacturer and we purchase them in bulk to control the cost. The light colored tags assist us with one of our quality assurance (QA) processes, which requires us to review all of our plaza images for the presence of a TollTag. That auditing procedure is performed live and requires the auditor to identify the transponder in the vehicle, properly mounted. Multiple colors pose a problem for this QA process.
But all is not lost. The NTTA is currently researching other options and hope to come up with a new, more aesthetically pleasing TollTag by early next year. As we get closer to that decision, we will include information in future editions of our Driving Forward eNewsletters.
Again, thanks for your “good words” and questions. Please feel free to send your comments anytime. Our email address is: TalkToNTTA@ntta.org.
