South End of Tollway Update: Out with the Old (bridge), In with the New (bridge)

NTTA construction crews will be adding auxiliary lanes to the Tollway which will widen it, requiring the new Cedar Springs Road Bridge to be built to accommodate the wider Tollway. Tollway traffic runs underneath the Cedar Springs Road Bridge. NTTA crews will be improving safety for motorists and pedestrians on the new bridge by widening the sidewalk next to the driving lanes and adding a three-foot curb offset as an added buffer between traffic and pedestrians which did not exist on the old Cedar Springs Road Bridge.

Currently, two lanes are open to traffic, an east and a westbound lane. When the new Cedar Springs Road Bridge is complete, later this year, there will be two lanes in each direction.

This project is part of a $50 million renovation to the south end of the Tollway. All lanes are scheduled to be open to traffic in the spring of 2008.

We hope to cause minimal inconvenience, but we are excited about this project because, when complete, the improvements of the 40-year old southern part of the Tollway will provide streamlined traffic flow, additional safety enhancements and will relieve traffic congestion. Your safety is always the highest priority at the NTTA.
