Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge to Offer Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity Competitive runners and Saturday strollers will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to cross the NTTA’s new Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge (LLTB) during a 5K race and Family Fun Walk before the bridge opens to traffic in August.
Organized by community leaders and sponsored in part by the NTTA, the “Run the LLTB” 5K race begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.
Runners will travel on the eastbound lanes, make the turn on the east bank and return on the westbound lanes. Registration is open until July 17 online at www.runlltb.com, and is limited to the first 2,500 registrants. The cost is $30 per runner.
During the Family Fun Walk, which begins immediately following the race from 10 a.m. until noon, members of the community may walk from the west bank to the bridge arch. Proceeds from the event will benefit Communities in Schools of North Texas. Organizers also invite participants to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Lake Cities Food Pantry and Little Elm Area Food Bank.
Event organizers also encourage participants to carpool to the event. Shuttles will be available to transport participants to and from parking areas around the Lake Dallas community. Participants must enter from the west (Lake Dallas) side; there will be no entry point from the east end of the bridge.
Local businesses can participate as a sponsor, vendor, or volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help with pre-event setup, water stations, parking, first aid, crowd control and post-event cleanup. All volunteers will receive a free event t-shirt. For information about becoming an event sponsor, vendor or volunteer, visit www.runlltb.com.
The LLTB was designed and constructed for vehicular traffic only. The community event on Aug. 1 is the only opportunity for pedestrian traffic to have a close-up view of the new bridge. However, only motorized vehicles will be permitted to use the bridge once it opens to traffic.
Planning is also underway for an official NTTA event to commemorate the bridge opening to traffic. The celebration also will take place in August, but a date and location has not yet been finalized.
