Maintenance “Buckaroos” Hold Safety Rodeo There were a few cowboy hats and boots, but not one horse or steer at the NTTA Maintenance Department’s “Safety Rodeo” held in May.
The main goal of the event was to help maintenance personnel brush up on their skills and participate in safety training. They also had a chance to have some fun while competing in work tasks and learning how to use equipment they may not be accustomed to using.
Crews formed teams and competed in timed events that included maneuvering zero-turn mowers, bucket trucks and forklifts. Backing-up trailers, performing pre-op vehicle checks, and preparing sand spreaders and weed eaters also were part of the competition.
Competitors were constantly reminded of the need to be safe during the rodeo and while working on NTTA roadways and other facilities. Throughout the day, safety videos were shown and representatives from the NTTA’s System and Incident Management Department were on hand to monitor the events to ensure safety.
When not competing, participants met with vendors who set-up informational booths and displays in the Maintenance Center. Participants learned about everything from work boots to blowers and chainsaws.
