Newest Segment of the Sam Rayburn Tollway to Open Ahead of Schedule A progress report delivered to the NTTA System Projects and Operations Committee in May indicated that Segment 3 of the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) is likely to open to traffic ahead of its January 2010 anticipated completion date.
“If construction continues to progress on schedule, the project could reach substantial completion by fall,” said Elizabeth Mow, NTTA director of project delivery.
Segment 3 is approximately 6.88 miles long and extends from Hillcrest Road to Hardin Boulevard. It is the next segment in the SRT corridor, which stretches approximately 26 miles southwest to northeast, linking the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and growing communities in Collin, Dallas and Denton counties.
Segments 1 and 2 are open to traffic and extend from Denton Tap Road in Coppell to Hillcrest Road on the Plano/Frisco line. Once complete, Segment 3 will round out nearly 23 miles of vital roadway needed for improved mobility.
The SRT has two additional segments to be constructed:
• Segment 4 – 2.94 miles, from Hardin Boulevard to east of Medical Center Drive including the SRT/U.S. 75 interchange; scheduled to open by January 2011.
• Segment 5 – .33 miles, consists of adding direct-connect bridges to the SRT at the Dallas North Tollway; scheduled to open by January 2012.
When complete, the SRT will feature six main lanes and all-electronic toll collection.
