Business Diversity Symposium to be held in Tarrant County The NTTA will hold its first-ever Vendor Outreach Symposium in Fort Worth on June 4 to promote Southwest Parkway (SWP) contracting opportunities to minority, women, small and disadvantaged business vendors. The symposium will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Garden Room at Goodwill Industries located at 4005 Campus Drive in Fort Worth.
“Including these business enterprises in the procurement of goods and services with the North Texas Tollway Authority is a top priority,” said Business Diversity Director Anthony Coleman. “This symposium will help make certain that vendors and businesses across the North Texas area are aware of how to take advantage of the various opportunities with the NTTA.”
Coleman and the Business Diversity Dept. staff, along with the SWP corridor management team, recently participated in the Fort Worth Entrepreneur Expo and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Infrastructure Stimulus Update in Dallas promoting the SWP project.
Meanwhile, the NTTA continues to work with its project partners – Tarrant County, the City of Fort Worth and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) – to meet deadlines for the obligation of approximately $133.9 million of federal stimulus money.
The complete SWP/Interstate Highway 20/State Highway 183 interchange construction cost is estimated at $270 million. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds of $133.9 million is approximately one half of the total interchange cost. This SWP ARRA project is expected to be advertised in July, with an anticipated construction start date in September 2009. The NTTA is finalizing contract documents to advance construction of this portion of the SWP project ahead of schedule.
Approvals of how ARRA funds are spent must be completed by June 29, 2009 in order to advance this designated portion of the project. In addition, the temporary hump lead at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Davidson Yard was accepted by the UPRR in late April. The NTTA and project partners will continue working with the UPRR to meet all terms of the Formal Agreement.
