NTTA Going All-Electronic Toll collection on all North Texas Tollway Authority facilities will be cashless in 2010. In August of 2007, the NTTA board of directors approved the gradual system-wide transition to ZipCash, the NTTA’s term for electronic, or cashless, toll collection. This transition offers many benefits to motorists and the region including: enhanced safety, improved traffic flow and, for customers without a TollTag, the convenience of ‘driving now and paying later.’
The transition to ZipCash will be seamless for TollTag customers. They will still save time and money, among other benefits, by having a TollTag. ZipCash customers, or those choosing to pay cash, will receive an invoice in the mail at the higher cash rate after they use an NTTA facility.
The definitive timeline of the transition is still being finalized. However, the Dallas North Tollway, the Addison Airport Toll Tunnel and the Mountain Creek Lake Bridge are expected to be transitioned to ZipCash in 2008 and 2009. The President George Bush Turnpike will become all electronic in 2009 and 2010.
The NTTA has a plan to transition cash collection employees affected by this transition into other positions within the organization. To date, 61 employees have transitioned successfully into other positions within the agency. The NTTA expects this number to increase substantially later this year when it assumes responsibility for State Highway 121.
