Progress Continues on the South End of the Tollway

First and foremost, a big "thank you very much" to our customers who were inconvenienced in early April by the temporary closure of the south end of the Tollway. The NTTA team carefully reviews when to schedule these closures and always plans them during times of lowest traffic volume.

During the 36-hour closure, our crews successfully installed new bridge beams for the Cedar Springs Bridge. Here are some other project updates:

Project Focus: Tollway Extension Between SH 121 and US 380

Everything is currently on schedule for an additional 9.6 miles of road to be open for driving at the north end of the Dallas North Tollway. TollTag Tidbits you May or May Not Have Known

As with most things in life there comes a time when a few myths must be cleared away, the TollTag is no exception. So let's start with a couple of easy ones.

• A customer can have up to three TollTags on an account at no additional charge –
True. So, if you have more than one car, that’s reason enough to add a tag.

• When my account reaches a balance of $10 or below, it is automatically replenished at a rate of $40.
True, unless you have a cash account which requires the account holder to replenish the account in person.

NTTA Command Center: Monitoring Roadways and Ready to Send Help

The NTTA’s Command Center staff keeps customers safe and roads clear by monitoring roadways and other NTTA facilities. The group provides customers with “on the roadway” solutions to incidents using innovative technology and a highly skilled work force focused on improving mobility. The group takes real-time 24-hour system knowledge of current conditions which impact customers, and relays it to them in creative and dynamic ways to improve their way of life and satisfaction with the NTTA travel experience. When necessary, staff in the 24-hour facility dispatch resources such as tow trucks, maintenance crews and emergency medical services, as well as Department of Public Safety troopers and police officers wherever they are needed along the NTTA system.

The Good Word Travels

In an email to NTTA’s Marketing Manager, Randy Evans, a local television station executive gave rave reviews to three NTTA employees for their quick response in his time of need. Apparently, the customer had a flat tire on the Tollway the morning of Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

According to the pleased NTTA customer:

“It was frightening; traffic was whizzing by at blinding speeds causing the bridge to shake in a hearty fashion. I called [another road emergency service] and they said they could be there in 20 minutes. However, in the meantime two different NTTA crews stopped by to see if I needed help – and they couldn’t have been more caring people. The first man put out flares behind my vehicle, and the second crew started to change my tire.”

Crews ready to improve new surface on southern end of Tollway

After 40 years, a portion of the pavement along the Tollway needs a facelift, or to be technical, an “ultra thin bonded hot mix wearing course.” In order to be brief, we’ll call it an overlay.

An overlay project on the Tollway from Harvest Hill Road south to Lemmon Avenue will begin by early May. Crews have been preparing the original concrete for several months. With age, the joints between the concrete slabs have shifted and this has resulted in an uneven surface between slabs. Those have now been tested and repaired and are ready for a new surface.

A Tag As Big As Texas

To stay true to the Texas size mantra of "Everything is Bigger in Texas", the scope of your TollTag is bigger than ever. You can travel any toll road in the Metroplex - including the new SH 121 - without stopping once to pay cash or worry about getting a bill in the mail. But since we are in Texas, your Tag works on ANY toll road in the state; if it requires a toll, and you have a TollTag then drive right thru and we'll make sure the toll gets to the appropriate place. Life with a Tag is bigger and better.

If you prefer flying rather than long drives, then park your car at either DFW International Airport or Dallas Love Field and the credit/debit card registered to your account will be charged the amount of your parking.

Bush Turnpike Offers Alternative to DFW Airport

Whether picking up or dropping off family members, friends, or business colleagues at DFW International Airport, the President George Bush Turnpike can make your commute easier and more convenient. The Bush Turnpike is an excellent alternative to skip the traffic going to and from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Also, look for new directional signage on the Bush Turnpike to appropriate exits. When leaving the airport follow the signs to access points for the Bush Turnpike. Signs will direct you to exits that will lead you to both north and south entrances of DFW Airport including IH 635, Royal Lane, Gateway Drive and others.
