Citizen Concerns Quickly Resolved A resident of Carroll Lane in Rowlett recently discovered how quickly the NTTA responds whenever a concern arises about one of its corridors.
A few days of rain and extensive traffic from large construction vehicles had created a muddy mess at the entrance of a resident Michael D.’s street — a dead-end with access only from the developing frontage road of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) Eastern Extension.
That evening, Michael’s vehicle became stuck in the mud, and once it was freed, he worried about exiting his street to go to work the next day. But an after-hours call to the NTTA garnered immediate action. By first light, the contractor put down additional rock on the street to stabilize the passage, alleviating Michael’s worry.
The Eastern Extension project team has handled a variety of questions from the public. Other questions and requests have dealt with everything from tree removal to truck traffic.
The Eastern Extension, under construction since March 2009, provides mobility solutions for neighborhoods, business districts, school zones and streets along its 9.9 mile length. It is expected to open to traffic in the last quarter of 2011.
The NTTA recognizes the need to minimize impacts from the Eastern Extension construction as much as possible and respond quickly when concerns arise.
Customers with questions should call the NTTA Command Center, (214) 224-2203, in the event of any unique or urgent construction-related issues that occur after regular business hours.
The NTTA also welcomes project-related questions. To contact a member of the corridor team on any NTTA project, go online to www.ntta.org/AboutUs/Projects/projects and click on a link under “major projects under construction or being planned.” There you will find phone numbers or e-mail addresses to reach project team members.
The Eastern Extension is part of the Loop 9/State Highway 190 corridor that first was envisioned in the 1960s. It will lengthen the PGBT southeast from State Highway 78, over Lake Ray Hubbard, to Interstate Highway 30.
