The NTTA expects to complete the majority of construction work related to the conversion to cashless tolling on the Dallas North Tollway by fall. Major ETC construction from Interstate 635 to the Sam Rayburn Tollway is expected to be complete by the end of summer. ETC construction from the SRT to the northern end of the DNT will be substantially complete by August and construction from the southern end of the DNT to I-635 is scheduled for substantial completion by late November. The ETC construction schedule does not include the SRT/DNT interchange progress, which is scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
The NTTA converted all of its roadways and bridges to a cashless system on Dec. 11, 2010. Previously existing main lane toll plazas were removed and crews finished adding a third main lane at those locations.
The cashless tolling system electronically reads TollTags and/or license plate information. This allows for little or no stop-and-go traffic, so motorists enjoy less traffic congestion, enhanced safety and improved air quality.
