PGBT Repair Work Complete Near IH-35E; Starts at Kelly Blvd.

Repairs are complete while others will begin May 2 along on a busy stretch of the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton.

The right lane of the eastbound Bush Turnpike between Interstate Highway 35E and Old Denton Road and the right lane of the north- and southbound I-35E entrance ramps to eastbound PGBT reopened April 20. Some minor work and clean-up items may still require occasional brief closures. The NTTA appreciates drivers’ patience during the repairs.

Meanwhile, repairs along the Bush Turnpike near Kelly Boulevard will begin soon. On April 18, NTTA issued the notice to proceed with the reconstruction of a retaining wall near Kelly Boulevard. The project is expected to be completed within 150 calendar days from May 2, an aggressive schedule for this type of work. The reconstruction project is expected to cost approximately $2.8 million.

On Jan. 31, 2010, the NTTA discovered a noticeable shift in the retaining wall and buckling of the pavement along the Bush Turnpike westbound at Kelly Boulevard. NTTA personnel initiated an immediate emergency stabilization project that was complete at the end of February 2010. Forensic engineers were brought in to assess the cause of the unexpected wall movement and to develop options for reconstruction. Once the design for the reconstruction was complete, the construction project was advertised and competitive bids were received. The American Public works Association honored the NTTA's Maintenance Department with a distinguished "Public Works Project of the Year Award" for the emergency repairs.

Once the project is completed the main lanes will be returned to their final configuration with standard shoulders on either side. The current construction configuration is expected to remain in place during the majority of the 150 calendar day project schedule. Access to the project work site will be from the westbound frontage road. The latest lane closures are posted daily on the NTTA website at www.ntta.org.
