Crews Move Forward on DNT South End Renovations Crews continue to make progress toward completion of the renovations at the south end of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT), from just south of Lemmon Avenue to the Interstate (IH) 35E exit ramp. Crews are also working diligently to finish improvements to Oak Lawn Avenue near the DNT.
Construction will be ongoing until later this year to finish remaining portions of the $50 million project to renovate the oldest part of the DNT.
From Lemmon Avenue to Maple Avenue, crews are working to complete the permanent striping, sound walls and roadway lighting as well as the permanent all-electronic toll collection (all-ETC) gantries, columns and information technology buildings. Workers are also making pavement repairs and installing an asphalt overlay on the existing DNT from Lemmon Avenue to the Lomo Alto bridge and from just south of Oak Lawn Avenue to the southern terminus.
The permanent all-ETC gantries were installed Sept. 20-21, and crews will continue mounting the lighting and video tolling equipment on the new gantries. Gantries are bridge-like structures that span the lanes and hold toll collection equipment.
In recent weeks, crews also have installed foundations for roadway lighting, roadway camera structures and overhead sign structures. In addition, they’ve made repairs to the pavement just south of Oak Lawn Avenue to the southern terminus.
NTTA crews are also vigorously working on Oak Lawn Avenue, which soon will connect to the DNT. A new northbound Oak Lawn Avenue entrance ramp is being constructed along with a new southbound exit ramp to Oak Lawn Avenue.
The widening of Oak Lawn Avenue as it approaches the DNT from the east and west is forecasted to open to traffic in mid- to late October 2008. Final completion is expected by the end of 2008, and work will continue until then.
