Discussions on Southwest Parkway Continue as Citizens Advisory Council in Fort Worth Educates the General Public

Southwest Parkway (SWP) project partners (NTTA, Texas Department of Transportation, Tarrant County, and the City of Fort Worth) continue to work toward resolving issues related to utility relocations, right-of-way acquisition, funding, and finalization of design and landscape details.

These details were on display Sept. 7 at the SWP Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) meeting at the Fort Worth Zoo, and again Sept. 23 at a CAG-sponsored open house at Fort Worth’s Arborlawn United Methodist Church.

With design well underway for the five roadway sections, and completed plans under review for the Trinity River crossings, project partners continue to work on a final funding agreement and construction schedule.

In addition, coordination continues with the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) for the Davidson Yard crossing, with meetings between UPRR and project partners occurring a few times each month. Discussions at each meeting have focused on the details of proposed improvements, coexistence between the rail and roadway corridors, and the terms of an agreement.

If all issues are resolved and agreements signed, it is anticipated that construction of the 8.4-mile initial segment could begin in 2009. The parkway is expected to be fully open to traffic in 2012.
