OCTOBER 2006 EDITION

Southern Portion Of Tollway To Close For Weekend

The North Texas Tollway Authority will close the southern portion of the Dallas North Tollway from 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 23.  Closures extend from IH 35E (Stemmons Freeway) to Northwest Highway (Loop 12). Temporary closures are needed in order to demolish the Cedar Springs bridge. Please seek alternate routes.

The NTTA plans closures for times of lowest traffic volume. Residents and businesses in the area should expect loud demolition noise from heavy equipment for the duration of that weekend.

In addition, eastbound Cedar Springs Road is now closed to traffic and will remain closed until mid-March 2007. Westbound Cedar Springs at the Tollway is now one lane only. The east end of Lucas Street at Cedar Springs and the Tollway will also be closed during that five-month interval.

For more information and for timely updates, please consult www.ntta.org or call 214-224-3030. Click here to read about the south end Tollway improvements.

In the case of inclement weather, the closure will again be postponed one week.

NTTA Economic Impact Study Brings Good News

In direct response to questions from our stakeholders about the economic impact North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) toll roads have had on the region, the NTTA Board of Directors commissioned a study in April 2006. The study has quantified a $1.5 billion NTTA investment in roads resulting in an impact of more than $28 billion to the Dallas-Fort Worth economy.  We recognize that this economic partnership was a collaborative effort with state and regional transportation agencies, city and county governments and local business leaders.

The 1.7-mile bridge, scheduled to open to traffic in 2009, will provide a vital link for the 13.8-mile corridor, which is a joint project with Denton County, the NTTA, TxDOT and local municipalities. The four-lane bridge will be the only tolled portion in the corridor. It was designed by Turner Collie & Braden, Inc. and will span the northern arm of the lake.
