Northern Extension of Tollway Opens on Sept. 28

Mayor Mike Simpson of Frisco said, "Our citizens have been anxiously awaiting this day. Not only will the opening of the DNT extension through all of Frisco improve our quality of life for those who live here, it will be welcomed by our growing number of visitors. The DNT extension will improve mobility throughout our city, reduce travel times for commuters, provide easier access to our sports venues and shopping districts and spur development along the tollway. It will be a catalyst for further economic development not only for Frisco, but for the entire North Texas region.”

“We thank all of the Frisco property owners who donated right of way vital to the success of this project. We greatly appreciate the partnership with NTTA and the diligence the agency showed in making this extension a reality,” Mayor Simpson added.

“Simply put, this vital expansion of the Tollway couldn’t come at a better time to help match the growth on the west side of Collin County,” said Phyllis Cole, County Commissioner for Precinct 1. “This is welcome relief for those who live, work and commute through this fast-growing end of the county.”

“This project is so important that land owners donated 95 percent of the right of way,” said Joe Jaynes, Collin County Commissioner for Precinct 3. “From the beginning this project has been an excellent example of the public and private sectors working together to increase access for one of the fastest growing areas within one of the fastest growing counties in the nation.”

Gary Base, an NTTA Collin County Board member added, “The completed extension of the Tollway through Frisco will improve and enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Collin County and help fuel the economic engine of Collin County as well.”

Less traffic is expected on the service roads after the opening and many drivers in Denton and Collin counties will alter their travel choices from other roads such as Preston Road and Legacy Drive. Exits and/or entrances are located at Gaylord Parkway, Lebanon Road, Stonebrook Parkway, Cotton Gin Road/ Main Street, and Eldorado Parkway. The main lane toll plaza is located between Eldorado Parkway and Main Street.

At the main lane toll plaza, TollTag customers will pay $1.05; cash customers will pay $1.30. Toll rates at the ramp plazas vary. (To view a toll rate list, please visit www.ntta.org) The toll at the Frisco main lane toll plaza is slightly higher than other system main lane plazas because it is the single main lane toll plaza between SH 121 and U.S. 380.

Construction on the Phase 3 Extension from Gaylord Parkway north to U.S. 380 was started in January 2005.

Planning for the Phase 4 extension of the Dallas North Tollway, from U.S. 380 to the Grayson County line, is already underway. As north Texas continues to grow, the NTTA is expanding its capabilities and collaborating with its regional partners to improve mobility, air quality and the quality of life for citizens.
