Construction Beginning Soon on PGBT Eastern Extension

Work on the first section of the 9.9-mile Eastern Extension of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) is about to begin. Construction crews are expected to begin their work by mid-October on the section of the extension from north of the future Merritt Road to south of Main Street in Rowlett. Referred to as “Section 30,” it is one of five sections that make up the Eastern Extension.

The NTTA will be responsible for the construction of Sections 28 through 31 that run from State Highway (SH) 78, where the PGBT currently ends, east and south to the Lake Ray Hubbard northern shore. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), a partner in this effort, will construct Section 32, which includes a bridge over the lake and connections to Interstate Highway (IH) 30 in Rowlett.

Other partners involved in the construction project are Dallas County and the cities of Dallas, Garland, Rowlett and Sachse.

All four of the NTTA sections of the PGBT Eastern Extension are scheduled to be under construction by the end of this year. The entire corridor is expected to be open to traffic by late 2011.
