DNT South End Update

Crews are working to complete construction on the south end of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) from just south of Lemmon Avenue to the Interstate Highway (IH) 35E exit ramp. Work is also progressing on improvement to Oak Lawn Avenue near the DNT.

Construction will be ongoing until later this year to finish remaining portions of the $50 million project.

From Lemmon Avenue to Maple Avenue, crews are currently working to complete the center median barrier, permanent striping, soundwalls, and the permanent all-electronic toll collection (all-ETC) gantry columns. A gantry is a bridge structure that holds toll equipment and spans all traffic lanes.

The electronic tolling equipment on a gantry collects information from electronic toll transponders or license plates. Tolls are deducted at a lower rate from the accounts of customers with a TollTag, a TxDOT-issued TxTag, or a Harris County Toll Road Authority EZ Tag. Drivers without transponders are charged higher rates via ZipCash, the NTTA’s drive-now, pay-later payment method.

Temporary toll collection gantries have been in place during construction of the new all-ETC gantries. The permanent gantries will be installed on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21 and will result in the temporary closure of the south end of the DNT.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 12:01 a.m. to noon, all northbound DNT lanes of traffic will be closed from the Interstate Highway (IH) 35E entrance ramp to Mockingbird Lane. Motorists will be able to drive north on the DNT beginning at Mockingbird Lane. Southbound traffic will not be affected during this closure.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, from 12:01 a.m. to noon, all southbound DNT traffic will be required to exit at Northwest Highway. All other southbound entrances from Forest Lane to IH 35E will remain closed during this time. Northbound traffic will not be affected during this closure.

During the closures crews will also be installing foundations for roadway lighting, roadway camera structures and overhead sign structures. Repairs will also be made to the pavement south of Oak Lawn Avenue, to the Wycliff and Maple Avenue bridges, and to the DNT bridge over Harry Hines Boulevard.

NTTA crews are also keeping busy on Oak Lawn Avenue, which will soon connect to the DNT. A new northbound Oak Lawn Avenue entrance ramp is being constructed along with a new southbound exit ramp to Oak Lawn Avenue. The widening of Oak Lawn Avenue as it approaches the DNT from the east and west is still on track for a mid-October completion.
