NTTA Implements System Rates at DNT South End

Now that motorists on the Dallas North Tollway can zip through the newly opened lanes at the South End, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) plans to bring the toll rates at the Wycliff Avenue main plaza up to speed with the rest of its system.

When the NTTA implemented its first system-wide toll increase in September of 2007, the agency did not raise rates at the main lane plaza at Wycliff Avenue due to the ongoing construction which limited capacity to two lanes in each direction. On Aug. 29, an additional lane in each direction opened on the South End marking substantial completion of the $50 million renovation project.

As originally planned, tolls at the Wycliff Avenue toll plaza will be raised by a dime for TollTag customers and a quarter for ZipCash customers effective midnight, Oct. 1.  Currently, TollTag customers pay 60 cents and ZipCash customers pay 75 cents. TollTag customers will pay 70 cents and ZipCash customers will pay a dollar after midnight Oct. 1. These rates are consistent with the majority of the rates at main lane plazas system-wide. ZipCash customers do not have a TollTag and are billed by mail for their transactions.

“We are grateful for our motorists’ patience while construction limited the road’s capacity. We chose to wait until construction was substantially complete, which three lanes in each direction, to implement the toll increase at this location,” said Rick Herrington, NTTA’s Deputy Executive Director.

Aug. 29 marked the first time since spring of 2006 that motorists were able to use three lanes in each direction on the 40-year-old South End of the Tollway.
