Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail Parkway: Making Progress on More than Pavement

After four decades in the making, the NTTA began moving dirt in mid-April 2010 on the northern-most section of the Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail Parkway project. SWP/CTP will be a 27.6-mile road that stretches from Fort Worth’s central business district at Interstate 30 to U.S. 67 in Cleburne.

Fort Worth motorists are now seeing signs of progress as construction of the Section 2C portion of SWP/CTP reaches 40 percent completion. The Section 2C work includes the construction of retaining walls, Rosedale Street connector bridges and several bridge components inside the Union Pacific Railroad Davidson Yard.

By employing environmentally-friendly approaches and methods, the NTTA and its contractor are making progress in other areas of the SWP/CTP Section 2C project. For example, when crews bulldozed the Rosedale Street connector bridges in June, they began reusing the demolished concrete as rock bed throughout the project. The trees and tree materials collected from the project are processed and recycled as mulch, commonly used in gardening for flower beds. In addition, the NTTA has implemented a computerized system that allows contractors to submit official and regulatory documents, invoices and correspondence electronically thereby eliminating the use of paper, which can add up over the course of a project the size of SWP/CTP.

The entire SWP/CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in 2013.
