TollTag Basics: Answers to your Questions Q: I’m a TollTag customer, but what if I travel a toll road in a rental or loaner vehicle? Can I still use my TollTag?
A: An NTTA customer with a hard-shell TollTag may temporarily move the TollTag to a rental/loaner vehicle only if the TollTag account is updated with the rental/loaner vehicle information beforehand. Accounts can be updated online or by contacting the NTTA Customer Service Center at 972-818-6882 (NTTA). If you do this, you also must remember to update your account again with your regular vehicle information after returning the rental/loaner vehicle. Please note that this option is not available to customers with the blue sticker TollTags, since attempting to remove the sticker causes irreparable damage to the sticker.
Various rental car companies share vehicle information with the NTTA, while others offer an opt-in or opt-out option to their customers at the time of the rental. Please ask about their individual toll policies. If a customer opts in, the vehicle may be used to travel on any NTTA facility regardless of the method of payment. If a customer chooses not to participate and uses a toll road with a cash option, the driver is required to pay at a cash lane. If the rental car company has an agreement with NTTA, the customer may then travel on any cashless toll road and later will receive a ZipCash invoice that will reference the rental car transactions. If NTTA does not have an agreement with the rental car company AND the customer chooses not to opt-in to rent a company’s toll policy, then the customer may be subject to NTTA fees and rental agency fines.
