Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge Opens to Traffic Traffic is flowing across the Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge (LLTB), which opened Aug. 1, 2009. The days leading to the opening included several events to dedicate and celebrate the new Denton County landmark.
State and local dignitaries participated in a bridge dedication ceremony on July 30, 2009 under the signature steel arch. Guest speakers included NTTA Board Chairman Paul N. Wageman and NTTA Board Members Mike Nowels and Dave Denison along with State Representative Myra Crownover, Denton County Judge Mary Horn and Denton County Commissioner Hugh Coleman. Little Elm Mayor Charles Platt and Lake Dallas Mayor Tony Marino also shared a few words. Following the speeches, the attendees gathered under the arch to christen the bridge with biodegradable confetti as a sign of the official dedication. After the event, the guests were the first motorists to drive across the bridge.
The bridge also was the location of a community run/walk event on the morning of Aug. 1, 2009. Local officials estimate that more than 7,000 people participated in the event that was delayed briefly due to a thunderstorm that moved through the area. NTTA employees volunteered in the event and gathered approximately 3,300 pounds of food, which was delivered at the event to the Little Elm Food Bank and the Lake Cities Food Pantry. All proceeds from the community-led event were donated to the two food banks and Communities in Schools of North Texas. The excitement of the new bridge opening was evident in both the crowd that came to walk on the bridge and the line of cars on both sides that waited with anticipation for crews to clear the bridge and declare it officially open to traffic. At approximately 4 p.m., NTTA crews driving maintenance vehicles ushered awaiting vehicles across the bridge.
The toll rate for two-axle vehicles is $1 for TollTag customers and $1.50 for non-TollTag customers using ZipCash. The bridge is not designed for pedestrian or bicycle traffic, and the speed limit is set at 45 miles per hour.
