NTTA Votes to Accept and Deliver Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail in Tarrant and Johnson Counties

At its regularly scheduled August meeting, the NTTA Board of Directors voted to exercise its option to develop, construct and operate Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail toll project in Tarrant and Johnson counties.  These two projects were combined in October 2008 to form a 27.6-mile road that stretches from Fort Worth's central business district to U.S. 67 in Cleburne.

"This historic decision is indicative of the board's commitment to improve mobility in North Texas.  As NTTA’s first project in Tarrant and Johnson counties, this roadway ties the NTTA to the western portion of the region and gives millions of drivers additional transportation options," said NTTA Chairman Paul N. Wageman.  "I'd like to thank the Texas Transportation Commission and the Regional Transportation Council for their commitment to this project and the innovative finance and delivery options that made its delivery possible."

Construction is underway on the northern-most section of the roadway.  Environmental clearance activities are still ongoing on the Chisholm Trail portion of the roadway.  The entire project is expected to be under construction in 2011 and completed and open to traffic in 2013.

"Today’s decision was particularly momentous because Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail is an integral element of the regional transportation plan for Tarrant and Johnson counties.  I’m pleased the NTTA is able to develop this crucial transportation link.  It has been on the regional transportation plan for more than 40 years.  It is time for the road to be built.  It is long overdue," said Vice Chairman and Tarrant County appointee Victor Vandergriff.

The NTTA Board also provided Executive Director Allen Clemson the authority to enter into a project agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation.  For more information on the Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail project, visit the SWP/CT project page on the NTTA website.
