Cashless Tolling Construction Nears Completion

Construction on the Dallas North Tollway related to the NTTA’s conversion to cashless tolling took a major step toward completion in August with the demolition of the north- and southbound ramps at Belt Line Road, followed by new concrete paving where the old ramp plaza buildings once stood.

All new main lane toll gantries on the Dallas North Tollway are complete and fully operational, which leaves continuing construction work on the various tolled entrance and exit ramps throughout the corridor. In the weeks ahead, the NTTA will continue to temporarily close lanes and ramps along the Dallas North Tollway, south of the Bush Turnpike.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in late November 2011. The ramps in between the Bush Turnpike and Sam Rayburn Tollway are done, and the ramps north of the Sam Rayburn Tollway are expected to be complete by September. The ramps between I-635 and the President George Bush Turnpike are expected to be finished by late summer. Substantial construction on the Dallas North Tollway’s ramps south of Interstate 635 will continue through late fall.

The cashless tolling system electronically reads TollTags and/or license plate information. This allows for less stop-and-go traffic, so motorists enjoy less traffic congestion, enhanced safety and improved air quality.
