Safety Town Provides NTTA Opportunity for Community Involvement

A fun-filled environment where kids can learn everything from fire safety to bicycle safety is a one of a kind place that benefits the entire community.  That’s exactly why NTTA was proud to be a founding sponsor of the Frisco Fire Safety Town, adjacent to the Frisco Central Fire Station at 8601 Gary Burns Drive.

Frisco Fire Safety Town is an interactive, hands-on program designed to create a fun safety experience for children of all ages.  Indoor and outdoor safety is taught through an interactive educational facility which includes two classrooms, a fire engine and a Safety House with a realistic living area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom for children to explore and learn about home hazards, severe weather, fire safety and more. The outdoor section of the town is complete with home and business buildings, paved and marked streets complete with working traffic signals, a railroad crossing and yes, a toll booth.

“With safety being the NTTA’s number one goal, we were more than happy to assist the city of Frisco in helping make Safety Town a reality,” said NTTA’s Assistant Executive Director for Operations Clayton Howe. “Safety Town teaches valuable lessons to children throughout the Metroplex that they will carry with them for years to come.”

School year programs are offered free of charge.  Frisco Fire Safety Town presents annual Safety Education Programs throughout the school year for students in kindergarten through fifth grades who attend public, private or home schools in Frisco, or within the Frisco I.S.D. boundaries. Other school districts throughout the metroplex are also accommodated as the schedule allows. Since opening to the public in January of 2007, Frisco Fire Safety Town has shared their safety message with more than 51,500 visitors.

Walk through the streets of Safety Town and you will come across several buildings you are all too familiar with throughout Frisco including a church, Wal-Mart, banks and a Babe’s Chicken Dinner House – all adding a touch of reality to the learning experience. In addition to navigating buildings, children are provided hands-on access to other safety lessons. For instance, to learn about seat belt safety and other safety tips for traveling in cars students drive battery-operated Jeeps, equipped with a TollTag for travel through the Safety Town toll plaza. They also ride bicycles during lessons about wearing helmets while skating or cycling.

Frisco Fire Safety Town is available for group or individual tours weekdays after 2:30 p.m.   For availability, contact Frisco Fire Safety Town at 972-292-6350.
