NTTA Board Approves TxDOT / NTTA Regional Protocol

On August 10, 2006, the NTTA Board of Directors convened a Special Called Meeting to vote on an agreement between the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) meant to establish a process for assigning and developing future tolling projects in the region. The Board approved the Proposed TxDOT/NTTA Regional Protocol unanimously. The Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) voted similarly to approve the agreement at its regular meeting on August 24.

Over the last several weeks, the NTTA and TxDOT have been working together to draft a mutually acceptable agreement of terms on current and future transportation tolling projects in North Texas. The Proposed TxDOT/NTTA Regional Protocol supports and enhances the ongoing partnership between the two agencies on existing projects, and sets out steps for TxDOT and the NTTA to work jointly with the Regional Transportation Council in identifying and assigning critical future projects.

New NTTA Board Members

Earlier this month, the NTTA Board convened a Special Called Meeting to elect its officers for the next two-year term. Paul Wageman, a four-term Collin County appointee, was elected as Chairman of the Board. Jack Miller of Denton County was re-elected as Vice Chairman.

The NTTA also welcomes some new faces this month with the addition of two new Board members – Gary Base and Bob Shepard. In late July, the Collin County Commissioners Court appointed Mr. Base to represent Collin County. Mr. Base is the President and CEO of ViewPoint Bank in Plano, and is a member of the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition. In August, Governor Rick Perry appointed Mr. Shepard of Weatherford to the NTTA Board of Directors. Mr. Shepard is a commercial pilot for American Airlines. The Governor can appoint someone to the Board from any of the 11 counties contiguous to the NTTA’s four-county service area.
