NTTA Prepares for 81st Texas Legislature

Even though the last legislative session ended only a few months ago, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has already begun preparations for the 81st Texas Legislature.

NTTA Board of Directors Legislative Committee Chair, William W. Meadows, a Tarrant County appointee, has directed staff to prepare interim issues for consideration by the committee.

Negotiations are continuing daily between NTTA and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) staff to complete the market valuation on State Highway (SH) 161. NTTA has assembled a team of 20 plus subject matter experts who are working with their TxDOT counterparts to negotiate business terms and assumptions. The market valuation process is outlined under SB 792 passed by the 80th Texas Legislature. NTTA’s Board of Directors and staff renewed their commitment to completing the market valuation process in a timely manner.

Update on Tollway South End Improvements

Progress continues on the south end of the Dallas North Tollway.

Work on the Cedar Springs Road Bridge will be completed in December. The bridge will then have two lanes in each direction, which will improve the flow of traffic greatly.

In November, crews removed the remainder of the old booths and the Express Lane gantry at the Wycliff Avenue Main Lane Toll Plaza, which haven’t been used since January when the NTTA implemented ZipCash tolling to improve congestion in the area.

NTTA Working To Improve Ramp Congestion in Plano

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is working with the City of Plano to provide mobility solutions for current congestion and other mobility issues along the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) corridor in Plano.

In 2006, the NTTA’s traffic engineering consultant studied several possible solutions for improving current conditions along the interchange from the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) to the Tollway northbound to Parker Road. The results of the traffic studies led to two key recommendations:

Trinity Parkway Referendum Fails; Planning Continues

In early November, Dallas voters said “no” to a referendum halting the Trinity Parkway. That decision means work on the proposed 10-mile toll road extending from the SH 183/IH-35E juncture to US 175/Spur 310 near downtown Dallas will continue. When complete, the Trinity Parkway will provide traffic relief for the IH-30 and IH-35E corridors.

Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge Update

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is working cooperatively with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Denton County and the cities of Little Elm, Frisco and Lake Dallas to construct the Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge (LLTB) corridor, an east-west connection between Interstate Highway 35E and the Dallas North Tollway. This 13.8-mile long corridor project consists of eight sections, including the bridge that is under construction by the NTTA.

The NTTA is currently redesigning retaining walls and pavement in the toll plaza area to accommodate modifications needed for all-electronic toll collection.

NTTA crews also recently observed a major milestone in the construction of the LLTB. The first set of bridge beams were hung on Oct. 25. The hanging of bridge beams is a major step in the construction of a bridge because it is the foundation over which the roadway will be constructed and it is the first visible sign of the connecting of several points that will eventually reach completely across the lake.
