NTTA First Responder Tag for Emergency Vehicles

The previous NTTA policy for allowing non-revenue passage had been unclear, creating considerable confusion. An NTTA internal committee was formed to review practices, procedures and to clarify eligibility for passage. The result was the June 2006 Policy. The enhancement of the June policy allows for all marked emergency vehicles to receive First Responder Tags, which are a vinyl sticker Tag that features the Circle T logo with an integrated transponder. There is no need to stop and sign the Non-Revenue log en route to an emergency. Eligible vehicles include squad cars, senior level staff vehicles, fire trucks and other apparatus. Vehicles not responsible for incident response are not eligible for a First Responder Tag, though they may still receive free passage by signing the Non-Revenue log at the toll plaza.

The policy adopted by the NTTA Board of Directors in June 2006 allows non-revenue passage or use of its toll facilities under Section 502 of the Trust Agreement and the Texas Transportation Code. The policy applies to all Non-Revenue Passage, including but not limited to Non-Revenue TollTags and use of the Non-Revenue log.

The Non-Revenue Policy is effective for Authority employees, Board Members, consultants and contractors, officials from the Texas Department of Transportation, police and emergency agencies, and military vehicles.
