Vendor Outreach Symposium ScheduledIn an effort to involve more minority and women-owned business enterprises in its contracting process, the NTTA will hold a second Vendor Outreach Symposium in mid-February. The Feb. 19 event, to be held at 2 p.m. near Southwest Center Mall (7441 Marvin D. Love Freeway) in Dallas, will focus on the State Highway 161 corridor project in Grand Prairie. Read More ›

Government Affairs Update


The 111th Congress convened on January 6, a week before the 81st Texas Legislature began work.
 
Several transportation bills have been filed, including bills related to indexing the gas tax and discontinuing diversions of state transportation funds. As bills continue to be filed, the NTTA will routinely monitor any pertinent bills related to transportation.  The NTTA is also monitoring federal initiatives related to the economic stimulus plan proposed by President Obama.

The NTTA Board of Directors have embarked on a process to formally name the 121 Tollway.
 
Over the last several months, the Board has considered numerous name suggestions and, at its January meeting, selected three finalists: ‘Interurban Tollway,’ 'Sam Rayburn Tollway,’ and '121 Tollway.'
 
The Sam Rayburn Tollway is in honor of the late Congressman from Texas who was the longest-serving Speaker of the House of the Representatives from 1940 through 1961. The Interurban Tollway is in honor of the early 20th century passenger

Official 70 mph speed limit set on 121 Tollway

The NTTA Board of Directors voted during its Jan. 30 meeting to set a 70 mph speed limit on the 121 Tollway.

Work on Bush Turnpike Retaining Walls in Las Colinas Continues
Crews are drilling shafts for 31-foot posts to support new retaining walls at the southwest end of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT).
 
The NTTA’s $26-million renovation project, which began in August 2007, will replace all existing eastbound and westbound retaining walls between MacArthur Boulevard and Los Colinas Boulevard in Irving. The project is expected to be completed this fall.

Year End Blast for TollTag Program
The NTTA’s Third Party TollTag Vendor Program saw tremendous growth in 2008. Municipalities that sold TollTags increased by over 100%, from 15 to 34, with the city of Rowlett closing out the year as the latest vendor.

Tree Planting Efforts

The NTTA began planting more than 430 trees on the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) between the 121 Tollway and Panther Creek in December as part of the landscape and irrigation improvement project on the northern DNT.
