Government Affairs Update The NTTA submitted an application in August 2009 to the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) Program Office for the SH 161 project in the amount of $400 million. While phases of SH 161 are under construction, the NTTA would be responsible for Phase 4 of the project if formally accepted by the NTTA Board of Directors by the Feb. 28 deadline prescribed in law.
In December 2009, the original TIFIA application deadline of Dec. 31, 2009 was extended to March 1, 2010; due to the aggressive schedule for the project, the NTTA resubmitted a Letter of Interest for a TIFIA application on SH 161 by the original Dec. 31 deadline.
In September 2009, the NTTA also submitted three Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant applications for the Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail project totaling $278 million.
Announcement on the award of the TIFIA loans and TIGER Grants are expected in first quarter 2010.
Both SH 161 and Southwest Parkway have long been vital to enhancing mobility for the North Central Texas region. The NTTA continues to work with its project partners to advance these projects to relieve congestion and improve mobility.
