Legislative Session Wrap-up
The Board of Directors of the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) will add two seats to their Board of Directors later this year. Senate Bill (SB) 964, passed by the State Legislature during the 80th Legislative session and signed into law by Governor Rick Perry on June 16, requires that there be two Board members from each of the NTTA’s founding counties: Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant. In addition, there will continue to be one Board member, appointed by the Governor, from a county adjacent to the member counties.
Authored by Senator Florence Shapiro of Plano, SB 964 also allows for a seat to be awarded to new counties with an NTTA roadway project. A second seat for these new counties will be authorized when roadways achieve a minimum length of 10-miles and have been in operation for three years.

By a vote of 4-to-1, the members of the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) voted on June 28 to allow the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the State Highway (SH) 121 toll project.
“The North Texas Tollway Authority Board of Directors and staff are pleased the members of the Commission established a process that secured the ‘best financial value’ for this project. NTTA’s “Five in Five” Projects
‘Five in Five’ is a group of high-priority transportation projects that the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) has asked the NTTA to review for toll feasibility. The NTTA looks forward to partnering with local agencies, cities and counties and will be engaging elected officials in the near future.
The “Five in Five” projects include:
SH 121-Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail (Altamesa Boulevard to US 67)
Located in southwest Tarrant County and northwest Johnson County, this limited-access roadway will provide a much needed alternative north to south route to and from Fort Worth. It is a 19-mile continuation of the SH 121-Southwest Parkway project that is currently in the final design stage. The entire project is estimated to cost $650 million and will be tolled electronically. SH 121-Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail is tentatively scheduled to open in 2010. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City of Fort Worth are partnering with the NTTA on this project.

South End of Tollway Update: Out with the Old (bridge), In with the New (bridge)
On Monday, June 25, the Cedar Springs Road Bridge opened to two-way traffic after having only one lane open for westbound traffic while construction crews demolished the old Cedar Springs Road Bridge and completed most of the construction for the new one.
The NTTA is pleased to open the new Cedar Springs Road Bridge to two-way traffic because opening the bridge improves safety and mobility for the people that live, work and travel in this area. Opening the Cedar Springs Road Bridge to two-way traffic is an important milestone in this project.
