Jere W. Thompson, Jr., was first appointed to the Board of Directors of the Texas Turnpike Authority (TTA) in 1989 by Governor Bill Clements. In 1995, he was re-appointed by Governor George W. Bush and elected Chairman by the other members of the Board. He served as Chairman of the TTA and later as the first Chairman of the NTTA from February 1995 through December 2000.
The Jere W. Thompson, Jr. Scholarship Fund, administered by The Dallas Foundation, provides scholarships of up to $4,000 per year to eligible students pursuing a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. As determined by the independent committee appointed to administer the Fund, eligible candidates must be classified as juniors or seniors enrolled in public institutions of higher education in the State of Texas and come from a disadvantaged background. Preference is given to residents of the NTTA’s service area. Recipients are offered paid summer internships with the NTTA, HNTB Corporation, Kellogg Brown & Root and Carter & Burgess.
