NTTA Begins Toll Operations on SH 121 Prior to September 2008 Turnover

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) Board of Directors approved the transfer of toll operations on the now-open segment of SH 121 from Denton Tap Road in to Old Denton Tap Road from the Texas Department of Transportation (Texas Tollways) to the NTTA at their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 20.  As outlined in the SH 121 project agreement, NTTA will assume full operations on SH 121 including the construction and design of remaining segments, maintenance and operations in September 2008.

TollTag customers should not notice a difference when driving on SH 121. They will be charged the TollTag rate and billed on their NTTA account.

During the transition period, “pay-by-mail” customers may receive bills from Texas Tollways and the NTTA due to the differences in billing cycles. Customers will not be billed twice for the same trip. According to Texas Tollways, any unpaid tolls due to them must be paid and, if not paid on time, may be subject to additional fines and court fees. For more information on SH 121 tolls, contact NTTA customer service at 972-818-6882 or to pay your Texas Tollways bill, call 877-991-0033.

All passenger cars will continue to be charged the same toll rates.  However, other vehicle classes may see a slight change in rates.
“NTTA uses an axle-based billing system and Texas Tollways uses a shape-based system.  Therefore, some customers with two axle or more vehicles will see a slight difference in toll rates,” said Clayton Howe, NTTA Assistant Executive Director of Operations.   “For instance, a school bus would be a larger ‘shape’ under the current Texas Tollways system while under the NTTA system it would be considered a two axle vehicle.”

TollTags can be used on all toll roads in Texas and for parking and pass-through at Dallas/ Fort Worth International and Love Field airports.
