Construction Begins on Sam Rayburn/Dallas North Tollway Interchange

Construction on the new, five-level interchange between the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) and Dallas North Tollway (DNT) in the cities of Frisco and Plano began in February.

Williams Brothers Construction Company Inc. of Houston received its formal notice to proceed on Feb. 5, 2010, allowing construction to commence on the project, known as Segment 5 of the SRT.

The $79.4 million construction project will add a fourth and fifth level to the existing three-level SRT/DNT interchange. Workers will construct eight direct-connect bridges to link the two toll roads. The NTTA will also make local access improvements between the SRT/DNT main lanes and service roads.

When the new interchange opens to traffic – expected in January 2012 – motorists will no longer have to exit the DNT and then take the frontage road to access the SRT main lanes, or vice versa, as they currently do. The new fully directional interchange will allow traffic to continuously flow through the busy area, further improving regional mobility.

As construction progresses, area motorists and businesses will first notice bridge construction on the SRT east of the DNT. Early work will also include constructing a new southbound DNT exit to Legacy Drive. Crews will eventually build new direct-connect bridges in the core of the existing interchange and along the DNT main lanes and frontage roads.

The NTTA encourages commuters and businesses to sign up for a new report available via e-mail – the SRT Construction and Traffic Report – that will alert you to changes in traffic patterns and provide construction updates. In addition, updated SRT project information is available in the NTTA’s monthly SRT Corridor Progress Report.

To sign up for the new SRT Construction and Traffic report, please send an e-mail with your contact information to srt@ntta.org and request to be added to the e-mail list.
