NTTA’s Inaugural Women’s Forum The NTTA’s Business Diversity Department held the first in a planned series of Women’s Forums on July 28 to give participants an opportunity to discuss relevant issues for women-owned businesses. Approximately 100 representatives from women-owned businesses attended the forum, which was held in the NTTA Boardroom in Plano. Beverly Wright, an executive with IBM and a member of the NTTA’s Business Diversity Advisory Council, facilitated a panel discussion.
Among the panelists were Renee Edwards, president of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials; Debbie Hurst, president of the Women’s Business Council-Southwest, and Elizabeth Mow, the NTTA’s director of project delivery. The panelists shared their knowledge regarding gender stereotyping, informed risk taking, power of collaboration and other issues challenging women-owned businesses.
The Business Diversity Department has received positive responses from women who attended the event.
Outreach is a critical component of ensuring that the NTTA’s procurement process is inclusive, open and transparent. The NTTA believes that outreach must incorporate joint efforts with our regional peers, minority, disadvantaged, women and small businesses.
