June 2008 Government Affairs Update

NTTA Executive Director Testifies in Austin
NTTA’s Executive Director Dr. Jorge Figueredo and General Counsel Frank Stevenson testified in Austin before the Texas Senate Transportation & Homeland Security Committee in April.  The NTTA was invited to provide testimony on the Committee’s interim charge to study and make recommendations relating to the status of current and planned toll road projects in Texas, the use of public-private partnerships to build new roads and/or transit services, and the market valuation process defined in SB 792. Dallas-area Senator John Carona, Chairman of the Committee, thanked Dr. Figueredo for the considerable work the agency had accomplished over the last several months.

On Thursday, April 24, the SH 161 agreement signed by both Figueredo and TxDOT Executive Director Amadeo Saenz was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission in Austin. This agreement established a negotiated market value for the project and guaranteed the project would be built as a tolled facility.

NTTA Government Affairs Is Growing West!
This month, Mary Lou Jacobs will join the NTTA as the Government Affairs Manager, and will be assigned to outreach in Denton and Tarrant counties.  Mary Lou comes to NTTA from the Fort Worth Business Press and is a graduate of Texas Christian University.  She will office at a temporary location in downtown Fort Worth until a permanent NTTA location is identified later this year.  The new office will compliment the NTTA’s expansion and project development in both Denton and Tarrant Counties and allow greater access to our customers in the western region of the Metroplex.
