Work on Bush Turnpike Retaining Walls Continues Work is progressing on the renovation work at the southwest end of the President George Bush Turnpike in Irving. Crews are busy, up to six days each week, replacing existing retaining walls between MacArthur Boulevard and Los Colinas Boulevard, eastbound and westbound. Steps have been taken to ensure that traffic on both northbound and southbound frontage roads remain completely operational during renovations.
The $26-million renovation project started last August. The project is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2009, which is ahead of the original completion date.
Late last year crews concentrated their efforts around MacArthur Boulevard. They are now working at the Los Colinas Boulevard overpass.
In addition to construction crews on site, specially trained engineers have been working to make certain that the old retaining walls are not moving in an unsafe manner during construction of the news walls. They have installed various monitoring devices and gauges.
The new concrete aesthetics on the retaining walls will be setting the standard for other NTTA facilities. The same outward look of the concrete walls will be used throughout the NTTA system.
Lastly, the NTTA would like to thank personnel from the city of Irving for their cooperation and generous assistance during the project.
